Thanks to my mother, I now own a little black dress. Actually, it's a little black dress with embroidery and sequins and stuff, but it is little, black, and serves the time-honoured purpose of a LBD, which is to be the go-to dress that is little and black.
It came from Coldwater Creek yesterday! it's very pretty. now I need somewhere special to wear it.

Personal-superficialities

Pick a hair colour. Stick with it and maintain it for six months.
Well, I've picked it. The sticking with it and maintaining it happens now. I have to stop dying my hair every time I'm bored. 
Buy a set of impractical underwear, just to say I own it.
This is just superficial and fun. I've bought the top half and it's just so funny and incongruous with my usual set of boring underwear. 
Spend a whole day at a spa. No cellphone.
Relaxing! I'm not very good at it. Cellphones also get in the way of relaxing.
Buy a 'To Write Love On Her Arms' t-shirt.
Great cause. Great shirt.
Learn how to neatly braid hair.
I'm so close to this one. My braids are neat eight times out of ten. 
Buy a MAC eyeliner and do not immediately lose it.
SERIOUSLY. I've bought three MAC eyeliners in the last year, and not one of them has lasted more than a week before disappearing. It's a curse.
Buy a Little Black Dress.
I'll get to mark this one off in about a week!!!

Spirituality and faith

Go back to FFHM.
Foundation for His Ministry is my favorite place in the world, and I've only been there for two weeks out of my whole life. Visiting and working in a place where everything is so, so about God was a really good influence in my life. I like the feeling of not doing things for myself. On top of which, I love the people there, and I'd like to spend another amount of time there. It'll probably just be a week, but I'd love for it to be more.
Read the Bible cover to cover.
I think I've done mostly all of it in chunks, but I've never sat down and read the whole thing through, and I think that's important. It'll also be a good grounding for me, and I think I'd like to do this before I leave for school, so I'll do it this summer most likely.
For one month, get up half an hour early to pray.
This is one of those ones that I'm hoping becomes a habit if I start it as part of this list. One of the recurring things that has been popping out of sermons at me lately  is the importance of SPENDING TIME WITH GOD, and I don't think I do enough of this. So I'm going to start this one this summer too.
Go to Sean's church one weekend.
Sean's religion really interests me on an intellectual level, and I'd like to go to his church once to see it for myself.
Go to a Catholic church one weekend.
I've only been to a Catholic church once, for Christmas Eve mass, and it was really cool. I find the pageantry and tradition of the Catholic church really interesting and beautiful, and I'd like to see an 'everyday' Catholic mass, I guess.
Find out everything, in general, that I can about saints.
I think this stems from reading 'Catherine, called Birdy,' actually. But saints and martyrs are really interesting. Some of them are kind of wacky, and some did some really awesome things. So I'd like to find out how a saint becomes a saint and about some of the major and minor ones.

Creativity

I woke up way earlier than I meant to, so I thought now that Jenny's gone is a good time for me to perhaps make a little blog entry. So next on the list is creativity.

Go one month without using the word 'fuck.'
Why is this under creativity, you ask? I read somewhere once that offensive language is an excuse to be lazy and not find a better word. And also, sounding like a truck driver is not really number one on my to-do list. 
Sell or publish one poem.
This is a really big deal. Some of you may have seen on my other blog that I posted two poems in a venue where a lot of people I know could see them. I had a few in the iconographer this year too, and that was a big deal. Selling or having published one poem would be a really big accomplishment for me.
Finish a short story or other piece of fiction.
Especially when I was younger, I would start writing these pieces of work that if I had stuck with, could have been good. This will force me to sit down and WRITE. 
Complete a set of 'Adult' piano books, theory included.
This mostly goes with the next one, and also: I really love playing the piano and I wish I hadn't quit. You win, Mom! You said I'd be sorry! 
Write a whole song: lyrics, melody and accompaniment.
I can do the lyrics and melody fairly well. It's the accompaniment that's the problem, and hopefully: the adult piano books will help! You see the connection.
Attend an art show.
(I seem to recall once telling Sean I wasn't as pretentious as I pretend to be). Actually, I really want to go to an art show: see some interesting art! Also, the idea I have in my head of an art show is a really cool thing, and I'd like to see how it matches up. 
Learn to knit and knit a scarf ROBYN would actually wear. 
Robyn has claimed this scarf that I am going to knit, so it had better be good.
Make a piece of visual art, like a collage, for the dorm room.
This will force me to be careful because if other people are going to see it, it can't be sloppy. And it will be fun.
Learn guitar. The opening lick to Seven Nation Army and the James Bond Theme do not count.
Such a dream. I really meant to get on this this year, but it just never happened. Now that Brett has a guitar it's even more motivation.
Get my eyebrow pierced/get my tattoo.
Also both dreams. I'm a grownup now, let's get 'er done.
Take a stained-glass course.
I was reading a description of a beautiful stained glass piece in a book called 'Mercy', and that was my inspiration. I love stained glass, I think it's beautiful, and I know you can take a course on how to do it. So I want to.
Trim my own bangs.
This one is a little silly. But think! It would be prove that I do possess hand eye coordination.
Type my last three journals so I have a legible copy of them.
I like to type, and I would really like to have a copy of my journals because the first one, the purple one from France, is starting to fade. This will be slightly embarrassing, but worth it.
Buy and fill a 16G iPod.
Consumerism! Yay!

Health

To me, part of keeping a 101 in 1001 blog is explaining the reason behind my choices.
So to that end, I'm taking a section at a time, going through and kind of talking them out. If that bores you, please do wait until the 21st when I start this thing in earnest and will have actual progress reports.

HEALTH.
This is probably the biggest category, even if it doesn't have the most items. Basically the whole reason I decided to really go for this 101 in 1001 thing was personal growth, and pretty much anyone who knows me knows I have a long way to go to being physically healthy. 
So without further ado, things from the health list.

Don't drink Coke, Diet Coke, Coke Zero or Diet Pepsi for one month, on top of the one month drinking only water.
This is just obvious. The amount of Coke, Diet Coke, Coke Zero and Diet Pepsi that I drink is patently ridiculous. The caffeine addiction has to end somewhere, friends. This will probably be one of the hardest things on my list.
Spend one month drinking only water.
(I've decided that this includes my one glass of milk a day, because I don't want to get osteoporosis). Once again, this just stems from a basic desire to be healthier. If all I can drink is water, I'll drink more of it. Everyone wins. 
Walk Mozart every day for a month.
I had better get on this one before I move. Good for the dog, good for me. I'm pretty sure everyone will appreciate this: my parents, who will see both me and the dog getting out more; my siblings, who won't have to walk the dog; Mozart, and me.
Climb the hardest up and down wall at Stronghold.
Climbing has always been something I wanted to get into, and now, it'll help me get over the crippling fear of falling. 
Go on a real hike, on a trail not marked 'easy', with trail mix and everything.
Getting in touch with nature? Check! Good things for respiratory and circulatory systems? Check! Refreshing mix of almonds, raisins and m&ms? Check!!
Go two weeks without eating meat.
This is just a real personal challenge. And a veggie diet is supposedly quite good for you if you do it right.
For one month, do one hundred sit ups a day.
Ugh...well, at some point, I'd like to prove to myself I have abdominal muscles. This has to get easier the more I do it, right?
Do the yoga routine every day for a month.
I printed this really easy, beginner's yoga routine that I enjoy doing. So why do I never do it??? 
One week, no refined sugar.
Ugh again, yet again with the abs. Plus my teeth will probably thank me. I just realised that that will necessitate cutting out Coke again. 
One week, be in bed by ten thirty and up by six thirty.
I am such a night owl and my sleep habits suck. Mom's always telling me that the hours you get before midnight count the most, so maybe I should get some.
One week on top of the water month, no coffee.
Caffeine is a drug, friends.
Wear sunscreen every day for two months.
This one starts, like, the 21st. Pale is the new tan.
One month, no fast food.
My wallet and my waistline will be really grateful for this. Besides, there comes a point where fried stuff no longer sounds good.
Go swimming, at least twenty lengths, once a week for six months.
I love to swim and this will be good for my arms. 
Be goal weight. (Lose twenty pounds).
I am hoping that everything in the above list helps out with this one. Seriously, I think I can really do it.
One week: walking/public transit only.
This helps the environment, my bank account and my health. Done and done!

Watch a whole football game with Alanna and Dad. Don't complain.
Cook, prepare for, serve and clean up a family dinner.

Learn the basic premise of the game 'Halo' and play two rounds with Brett.
For a month, every time I want to see a movie, do volunteer work or charity work instead.
Volunteer for a political candidate.
Recycle every can and bottle I use or come across for a month.
